I have just returned from speaking at the ICCA meeting in Rhodes, Greece with a side trip to Istanbul and western Turkey. The best salesmanship I have ever experienced was on the streets of Istanbul. Salespeople in our industry (and, in a sense, we are all in sales), should take a lesson from the Turkish carpet salesman: establish a relationship, don't push, listen, provide helpful information based on responses. This is the type of person you want to buy from.

Technology Highlight: Abstract and Speaker Management Systems
Associations, corporations, and user-groups often run multi-day meetings with multi-track educational content. Putting together these educational programs can be quite time-consuming and labor intensive. Fortunately, the tools included in this section streamline these tasks, allowing planners and program committees to manage abstracts, speakers, paper and session scheduling, paper review and a variety of other related tasks. Several offer Web-based tools that allow program committees to perform these tasks while being geographically dispersed. Others include provisions for collecting speaker biographies, AV requirements and PowerPoint slides.
