ARTICLE: The
Next Big Thing – Wireless Technology For The Meetings Industry
Mobile and
wireless technology will have an enormous effect on the meetings industry. This
change will likely be as great as computer, Internet and web technology have had
so far combined. The heart of
this shift will be where the processing power lies. The processing power will
not be in the computers we are carrying around – it will be to the vastly more
capable computers we connect to over the Internet. This article
will cover the routes that we will see wireless technology work its way into our
lives especially as it applies to the meetings industry. www.corbinball.com/articles/art-wireless.htm
NEW ARTICLE: Digital
Housing By Cathy
Chatfield-Taylor* Meeting
planners are using online housing services to do things they couldn't do just a
year ago. Enhanced functionality, customization, and end-to-end integration have
made these Web-based applications an essential tool to improve customer service
and maximize return on investment. And high-tech events have been the early
adopters, pushing the technology envelope and driving developments. www.corbinball.com/articles/art-digitalhousing.htm

FAVORITES SITES: Business finders The web is
the most powerful sales tool ever invented. The sites below can help you find
out about companies and potential clients. Corporate
Information www.corporateinformation.com This
fantastic site allows you to find information about 20,000 companies (with more
than 350,000 links to company profiles), research by country, research by state,
and has tons of other useful tools. **** Researching
Companies Online home.sprintmail.com/~debflanagan/index.html
This site
also has many business locator tools with tips on how to:
**** The
Ultimate Yellow Pages www.theultimates.com/yellow
This
meta-business address finder allows you to search six of the top
“yellow-page” sites with a single entry. 2
FAVORITES SITES: Graphical Searches Are you
right-brained and tend to think graphically rather sorting through pages of
words that most search engines produce? Then these two cool sites may be for
you. Kartoo
www.kartoo.com Although it
may not give Google much competition, this French-based “mind-mapping”
search engine is the coolest looking one I have ever seen. It is fun to try. Plumb
Design Visual Thesaurus This site
provides a Kartoo-like interface to a thesaurus. Thanks
to Charlie Wilson of Charles A. Wilson & Associates in Washington D.C. for
sending me these links. 2
HIGHLIGHTED MEETING INDUSTRY FAVORITE SITES
Meeting
News www.meetingnews.com
This site
keeps adding the content. They (their parent company VNUExpo) now host the MIM
List (the largest and most active mail list for the meetings industry), offer a
very helpful weekly newsletter, well written special reports with extensive
checklists, links to the latest industry news stories, and a searchable archive. **** National

ARTICLE: The Evolution Of The Major Meeting Industry Web Sites -- Where Are
We After The Dot.Com Bubble Burst? The Internet
has brought unprecedented change to the meetings industry. During the past seven
years, new ideas, tools, and radically different business processes have bubbled
up from hundreds of online technology providers selling everything from
“abstract management tools” to “zero based budgeting.” The frenzied
hyperactivity of the late 90’s has leveled off, however. After the Dot.com
“bomb” in 2000, many companies have unplugged and the ones that have
survived concentrate on core business. This article
will cover several of the significant pioneering meeting industry sites, their
evolution, and where they are headed. www.corbinball.com/articles/art-dotcoms.htm
