Corbin's
Meetings Technology Newsletter - September 1999 Greetings, Here is the September 1999 edition of my e-newsletter highlighting the new articles at my web site. Corbin 16
MOST FREQUENTLY ASKED WEB QUESTIONS – THE WEB FAQ FILE What are your burning technology questions? I have given nearly 80 presentations around North America during the past two years and have been noting the most frequently asked questions (FAQs). Listed below are the top 16. Maybe yours will be included! http://www.corbinball.com/articles/art-webfaq.html THE
ULTIMATE MEETING PROFESSIONALS SOFTWARE GUIDE IS HERE! Technology is reinventing the way you plan meetings and incentive programs. But do you have the right tools for the job? My new book The Ultimate Meeting Professional's Software Guide, published by MPI (www.mpiweb.org) catalogs more than 170 software products in 14 categories -- the most comprehensive guide ever written. Retail price through the MPI Bookstore (972-702-3044) is $25 for MPI members or $35 for non-members. COOL
TOOLS - MEETING PLANNING SOFTWARE SOLUTIONS If you would like a sample of the type of information the individual software listings in my book contain, this article will give you an idea. This article reviews seven of the 170 software products in a similar type of format (as written for Adams Business Media Press this last spring). http://www.corbinball.com/articles/art-software.html FOUNDATION
SUPPORT – THE FLASH POINT OF TECHNOLOGY CHANGE I have been very fortunate to have had the opportunity to serve as a Trustee on the Foundation for Meeting Professionals International (MPI) this past two years. The work of the MPI Foundation transcends the association – it has been a research and development force for the meetings industry in general. The article here outlines how technology is rapidly changing our industry and why now is a better time then ever before to consider supporting this or similar types of foundations. http://www.corbinball.com/articles/art-foundation.html Y2K
UPDATE A major milestone has just passed (September 9, 1999 – or 9-9-99). This was expected by many doomsayers to cause major Y2K-type of disruptions as a string of 9’s is considered to be a “stop-process” signal to mainframe computers. Fortunately, no significant disruptions occurred – an indication that things are getting in good shape for the millennium. However, my advice still stands. Prepare as if a hurricane/earthquake/blizzard/tornado is coming. The chance of a major long-term disruption in the U.S. due to Y2K is small – but there is still a chance. Basic civil preparedness suggests that we all should have a stockpile (2 weeks) of food, water, and first aid equipment on hand. Use Y2K as the excuse to be prepared for this and other disasters that may come. SPEAKING
